Join us on Thursday, October 12, 2017, to learn from presenter, Ronald Chapman, II , who is an attorney and shareholder at Chapman Law Group, a multi-state health care law firm. Ron specializes in health care compliance, fraud and abuse allegations, and professional licensing. He was recently named as a Michigan Lawyers Weekly Top Lawyer and is a co-chair of the Michigan Bar Health Care Law Section Substantive Law Committee. In addition Ron has been published in national publications in the area of health care fraud and abuse and lectures nationally on issues related to health care compliance, DEA compliance, health care fraud and abuse, and regulatory investigations.

In this discussion, attendees will receive a brief primer on DEA compliance. Topics include: elements of a valid prescription, limits on refills, postdating prescriptions, storage of controlled substances and common compliance issues related to prescribing and dispensing. Additionally, attendees will receive a refresher on the proper documentation for the prescription of controlled substances and common issues related to electronic prescriptions and EMR’s. Attendees will also learn the common “red-flags” associated with drug seeking patients, how to follow up on “red flags” and common areas of concern for the DEA. This information will be supported by some “real world examples” taken from criminal, administrative, and civil cases. Many issues specific to urgent care centers will be discussed such as, prescribing for acute pain without access to records and the supervision of NP’s.
