Antibiotic Stewardship Toolkit



Did You Know? The Urgent Care Association, Urgent Care Foundation, and the College of Urgent Care Medicine have been working with the Antibiotic Resistance Action Center (ARAC) at George Washington University since 2016.





In collaboration with the Urgent Care Association (UCA), the College of Urgent Care Medicine® (CUCM), the Urgent Care Foundation (UCF) and the Antibiotic Resistance Action Center (ARAC) at George Washington University are dedicated to working towards the goal of promoting appropriate antibiotic prescribing. They're doing so by developing tools for patient education, training and education of both clinical and non-clinical staff, clinical decision support tools, data collection, evidence-based antibiotic stewardship practices and research. 

Below you will find the Antibiotic Stewardship Toolkit from the College of Urgent Care Medicine® to assist in antibiotic stewardship and patient education: 

Antibiotic Stewardship Toolkit from CUCM - which includes helpful resources and tools for clinicians, practice managers, and patients including the Core Elements of Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship developed by the CDC:

  • Commitment: The first step to implementing an antibiotic stewardship program is commitment to the program. This toolkit includes a letter in support of the program to display for patients as well as a written statement from senior facility leadership in support of their clinicians.
  • Action: The toolkit includes suggestions on how to create a plan stating the mission and outcomes of Antibiotics Stewardship that an be created and distributed to staff.
  • Tracking and Reporting: Urgent care centers are encouraged to perform regular audits and provide feedback in order to guide changes in practice and to assess improvement in antibiotics prescribing trends. The toolkit gives centers the tools to do so.
  • Education and Expertise: The toolkit provides clinician and patient educational resources and tools about antibiotic stewardship.
