The phrase “Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment” (LLSA), may be completely familiar to some urgent care clinicians and totally foreign to others. The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) points to LLSA as one of the standards for continuing certification, to “assist diplomates in staying up to date with new, rapidly changing developments.” Although urgent care is yet to be recognized as a formalized specialty, as clinicians we aspire to this standard of lifelong learning and self-assessment for one main reason: patient care.
