This fall, the Urgent Care Foundation (UCF) and the College of Urgent Care Medicine (CUCM) convened the 1st Annual Urgent Care Clinical Consortium in Denver, Colorado. The event focused on two topics of primary importance to the urgent care industry: the crisis of antimicrobial resistance and stewardship in urgent care and influenza diagnosis, treatment, prevention and opportunities to enhance the role UCCs play in the national safety-net.
With possible FDA regulatory actions to change the status of Tamiflu to an over the counter medication, predictions of an early onset of the 2019-20 Influenza season and continued research and evaluation of ABS in the urgent care industry, Consortium attendees were able to review and discuss current industry trends and recommendations for 2019-20.
Top urgent care executives representing a wide cross section of the industry, representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPH) presented on the most current research and recommendations on Antibiotic Stewardship and projections on the 2019-2020 influenza season. Attendees also heard presentations from other key health experts and stakeholders on how UCCs can best affect clinical outcomes and population health during the flu season and beyond.
Key deliverables from the event will include new recommendations, resources and action plans on influenza and ABS. Stay tuned for more information on Influenza activities and new educational resources available during Antibiotic Stewardship Week (November 17th – November 23rd).
We would like to thank our 2019 Clinical Consortium partners, Abbott, BD, Cepheid, RB Health and Roche for their support of this first annual event.
