Joint Commission Accreditation Standards
Starting in December 2009, the Joint Commission publishes a standards manual specifically for urgent care. Order the 2010 Standards for Urgent Care here.
How else can I get the Standards?
All centers who apply for accreditation receive the most current printed standards manual.
UCAOA members can also download the 2009 standards in the Members Only section for no charge - these documents do not reflect the 2010 updates, so should only be used as a basic reference. We also like the Joint Commission's "Accreditation Process Guide for Ambulatory Care". This is a well-organized "compliance workbook" for centers not yet applying (cost $119 - but UCAOA has a limited supply of 2009 manuals for free - email us).
Does UCAOA have ongoing input on the Standards?
YES. UCAOA appoints two individuals to serve on the Joint Commission's Professional and Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) for Ambulatory Care. The 2010-2011 PTAC representatives are Cindi Lang (DocNow Urgent Care) and Jennifer Stephenson (PrimaCare).
