Take action today: Urge Congress to extend the Medicaid payment increase!
UCAOA
Currently, Medicaid primary care services are being paid at Medicare levels. This federally funded enhanced payment allows physicians to serve more Medicaid patients. However, the provision expires on Dec. 31, 2014 unless Congress votes to extend it. Please take a moment to contact your members of Congress and ask them to pass legislation before the end of this year that would extend the Medicaid payment increase.

Call for Speakers: Submit your presentation proposals!

UCAOA invites you to submit a proposal to join our roster of dynamic speakers for our National Urgent Care Convention to be held April 27-30, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. UCAOA is currently requesting proposals on key topics in urgent care. There is also the opportunity to submit a proposal on your own a topic. Presentations must be geared toward urgent care clinicians, professionals, administrators, or clinic owners/operators, and help them to expand their knowledge, advance their practice and improve their quality of care. Submit now until 5 pm Central on Wednesday, December 3; thereafter, submissions will not be considered.

CERTIFIED URGENT CARE (CUC) PROGRAM


Application deadline Friday, Nov. 28
UCAOA
If your center is interested in earning the Certified Urgent Care (CUC) designation, the last application deadline for 2014 is Friday, Nov. 28. The CUC program helps the public identify urgent care centers and promotes and advances the urgent care industry. Urgent care facilities with the CUC designation have a mark of distinction to educate your community and eliminate confusion with other kinds of providers. Your center can also use the CUC designation as a negotiation tool with providers to establish higher fee schedules. Free Wi-Fi for children's games

Many urgent care centers provide a separate waiting area for children that includes kid's table/chairs, toys or videos. However, centers are now responding to concerns from parents over handling "germ-contaminated" objects and have opted to offer free Wi-Fi for children's handheld electronic games instead.

19 percent of providers getting paid for telemedicine
Medcity News
According to a survey conducted at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine conference, held recently in San Diego, just 19 percent of healthcare practitioners said they have a mechanism to get paid for telemedicine services. Despite such impediments to use of telemedicine, healthcare professionals are using the technology — 67 percent are either using telemedicine to provide services now, or planning to in the next few years, and most see the technology most appropriate for follow-up visits, according to the survey.

RiteAid, Cleveland Clinic partner to pilot telehealth kiosks
Healthcare Dive
Telehealth kiosk vendor HealthSpot has made agreements to roll out kiosks at Rite Aid drug stores located in three Ohio markets—Akron/Canton, Cleveland and Dayton/Springfield. A deal was also struck to supply the Mayo Clinic with 2,000 kiosks for an in-house pilot serving employees in Austin and Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Ebola outbreak in Dallas ends

The last person being monitored in Dallas for Ebola reached the end of the 21-day incubation period without showing symptoms. The state health department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have monitored 117 people who came in contact with the city's Ebola patients through the same incubation process.

Obama administration predicts significantly lower health-care enrollment
The Washington Post
The Obama administration predicted that the number of people with health coverage through the Affordable Care Act's insurance marketplaces will be significantly lower by the end of next year than previous government estimates. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced that, by the end of 2015, 9 million to 9.9 million Americans probably will be in health plans sold through the federal and state insurance exchanges created under the healthcare law.
