Visit the JUCM website to read the January issue and our case report on high-risk conditions that present as back pain, by Erica Marshburn, BS, BA, and John Shufeldt, MD, JD, MBA, FACEP. Cervical and lumbar pain are common in urgent care and significant pathology is relatively rare with these presenting complaints. But the authors caution urgent care providers not to be lulled into a false sense of security and to document all potential diagnoses in these patients. Turn to page 19 online for information on what to consider in your differential the next time you are called upon to treat an adult with back pain.

The Journal of Urgent Care Medicine supports the evolution of urgent care medicine by creating content that addresses the clinical practice of urgent care medicine and the practice management challenges of keeping pace with an ever-changing healthcare marketplace. Are you an urgent care provider who would like to write for our journal? Send an e-mail to editor@jucm.com for information on our author guidelines.

Healthcare providers are increasingly using alternative primary care settings, especially urgent care clinics, to capture an after-hours market and divert traffic from emergency rooms to control rising medical costs. Having all of a patient's diagnoses on a single list helps physicians provide better care, because they're more likely to treat a condition such as diabetes or hypertension if they're reminded of that problem when a patient visits. What are the obstacles to digital health records?
The Wall Street Journal Share Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
What's standing in the way of the wider spread of health IT? Plenty of things, according to a new report from the Bipartisan Policy Center. The report says boosting use of electronic medical records and other health IT "enjoys bipartisan support." It's also being pushed by billions of dollars in government incentives. More
