Day 1: Comprehensive Clinic Startup

UCAOA pioneered the concept of a clinic startup course, growing it into the urgent care industry’s most sought-after resource for new and seasoned clinic owners, administrators, and operators as well as financial investors and entrepreneurs. As the needs of the urgent care industry change constantly, so too does UCAOA’s flagship course. Whether you’ve taken this program recently or years ago, the sessions included in Comprehensive Clinic Startup offer invaluable insight into how to effectively and efficiently operate an urgent care.

Topics covered include:

  • Clinic site selection, design and set-up
  • Contracting, credentialing and billing processes
  • Center staffing models, recruiting, and employee engagement
  • Paid advertising and grassroots marketing tactics to drive volume
  • Business case development, financial planning and financing options
  • Among others...

Day 1: Hands-on Clinical Boot Camp

The UCAOA Hands-on Clinical Boot Camp is an affordable, succinct approach to obtaining the clinical skills most used and needed in urgent care. Ideal for nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians new to urgent care or wanting a refresher, the two-day Hands-on Clinical Boot Camp will provide attendees with practical knowledge on how to manage patients that require joint injections, fiberglass and plaster splints and casts, as well as how to properly administer a musculoskeletal examine. Additionally, attendees will have the option of taking a basic or advanced suturing session to meet their specific learning needs.

Day 2: Comprehensive Clinic Startup

Day 2: Hands-on Clinical Boot Camp

Financial Management

Urgent care centers are businesses, which in order to thrive long-term, must provide an economic return to their investors. In this one-day Financial Management course, participants will learn how to use a range of decision-making tools and techniques to improve their center’s overall performance. Achieving consistent profitability starts with identifying strategic and operational metrics, extracting financial data from practice management systems, structuring financial data for meaningful analysis, tracking results over time and in comparison to industry benchmarks, and using financial outcomes to influence provider and staff behavior. Leveraging the knowledge and methods of seasoned urgent care operators, this course is specifically intended to increase the financial savvy of clinicians and operators who lack formal training in finance. Special emphasis will be placed on the return on investment (ROI) approach to business planning and on tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) via management scorecard to meet clear and measurable business goals.

Adding Ancillary Services

The primary business of urgent care is to provide on-demand treatment of non-emergent, acutely-rising injury and illness. However, walk-in patient volume is subject to seasonal, day-of-week and time-of-day variances, which can leave urgent care operators searching for ways to boost revenue and optimize provider and staff productivity during “slow” periods. Ancillary services are diagnostic and therapeutic solutions that include lab and imaging, aesthetic procedures, medical weight loss programs, pain management, allergy testing and treatment, and medication dispensing, among others. As a participant in the one-day Adding Ancillary Services course, you will learn how to identify margin-enhancing ancillary services that are complementary to your urgent care center’s operating model and patient demographics. The course will present multiple perspectives on operationalizing services including clinical practice, clinical support, sales/marketing, and billing/contracting. Special emphasis will be placed on developing the financial business case to provide a compelling return on investment (ROI).  Attendees will also benefit from a series of deep dives in which urgent care operators share their real-world experiences and learnings adding various services to their centers.

Integrating OccMed and Urgent Care

Optimize your urgent care center's productivity and profitability by adding workers’ compensation injury care, wellness and prevention services, and compliance services such as vaccinations, physicals and drug screens. Realize synergies between the urgent care and occupational health businesses that leverage and extend existing clinical capabilities, strengthen employer/payer relationships, and take advantage of contra-seasonality and time-of-day variances to flatten ebb and flow in walk-in volume. Understand how to integrate the dual OccMed/urgent care flow in regards to wait times, patient prioritization, provider and staff scheduling, and utilization. Emphasis will be placed on sales, marketing and account management to identify potential clients, create a protocol service package, and create ongoing communications to assure account retention. Legal considerations of being an Occ Med provider will also be covered.
